What do you do when the guy you thought was normal starts to act weird on the first date?
It happens. It happened to me. I usually met or talked to a guy before I dated him. Usually through this first conversation, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. Or so I thought.
A few times I was surprised. For example, the man my friends call The Cheese Guy.
We went to a movie. It was odd from the beginning. He pretended to lose his glove at the ticket counter and ran back to his car. It seems this was a ruse to hid a bag of popcorn and sneak it into the theatre.
That said we got our seats. He had brought me a present. Looking in, there was CD and a bunch of spices ( later I would learn these were old and a few had webs in them). Mid movie, he decided the drama was too much and it made him feel cold. He went to get something to warm him up. He returned with a full cup of nacho cheese – no chips! He ate the cheese with a spoon. He then left me to go watch a cartoon in the neighboring theatre. Returning after a while, with another cup of cheese and the comment that he felt bad leaving me on a first date.
I did have a second date with him, dinner. I thought, perhaps he was nervous. No, just weird. Or at least weird for me. I hope there is an equally weird woman out there who embraces cups of nacho cheese!
What do you do when a guy you thought was normal acts weird? Well, first at all times, is safety. Dating safety has several parts to it. In this case. I felt he was safe to be with, just odd. I never felt threatened or insecure. If I did, I would have left. I would have asked a movie employee to walk me to my car.
Second, decide if you want to stay. I wanted to see the movie. I also thought, he might be nervous and perhaps be better during a second chance. Both, times I met him at a public place and I drove myself.
The Cheese Man was not my only weird date. Still, I never let those guys stop me from dating. It only takes one to make a lifetime partner. Keep dating and send me your thoughts.
